This project reimagines the existing jetty in Marina del Rey as an interactive public attraction that enhances the experience of the waterfront. Currently functioning as a simple pedestrian pathway, the design transforms the jetty into an engaging spatial journey that celebrates the site’s natural elements; water, wind, sounds, and expansive coastal views.
Drawing inspiration from the rhythmic patterns of both soundwaves and ocean waves, the structure’s form rises and falls along the jetty, creating a dynamic façade that invites visitors to walk, climb, or rest along its stepped surfaces. This rhythmic geometry allows users to physically engage with the architecture, experiencing changing perspectives of the ocean and sky as they move through the space.
The project intentionally remains open-air and unenclosed, preserving the sensory experience of the sea breeze and unobstructed views that define the jetty’s character. By merging form, movement, and environment, the Wavewalk Pavilion transforms a transitional pathway into a destination that encourages reflection, interaction, and connection with the coastal landscape.
